Petra Camp is Open!
Maranatha!
We are thrilled to announce the opening of Petra Camp (Campamento Petra)! It is the ONLY campground in our jungle region dedicated solely for evangelical churches to use for their youth camps and retreats. A local church, Iglesia Evangélica Emanuel, came this month and used the camp facilities for their youth camp! It was a good beginning and we owe a huge “Thank You!” to our dear New Union Baptist Church from Blairsville, Georgia for coming and helping us get everything ready in time, and to all of you who have donated towards the cabins, chapel and facilities!
Check this out. Vann’s grandparents built and ran a free camp for kids in Ila, Georgia called Camp Maranatha where he spent a lot of his childhood summers working with his beloved grandparents and many cousins. This is where his passion for youth camps comes from, since he has so clearly seen the enormous impact it can have in children’s lives. Well, guess what Iglesia Evangélica Emanuel chose for the theme of their camp - the very first camp of Camp Petra - “Maranatha”! It was like a little love note from Jesus for Vann!
We still have seven more cabins to build, the kitchen needs to be roofed (Vann just ordered the steel to build the rafters) and outfitted, and we need a dining hall. So far, the campers are cooking just outside the chapel on the new sidewalks (which works, but is not ideal), and eating/meeting inside. If you, your church, or Sunday school class is interested in sponsoring a cabin, or the building of the kitchen or dining hall, please find our “Contact.Donate” page for easy instructions, and write a note letting us know towards what the funds are designated. We are so excited to see how God is going to use this camp for His Kingdom work in our jungle region!
Please pray for these camp facilities, that God would protect every person who comes, that His Spirit would bring a revival to Pucallpa and many souls would be saved here at Camp Petra! All glory and honor be to Him and His wondrously great name! Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!
